I see a real conflict in people in church. Especially in men my age or younger. They want to pursue God, and at the same time, pursue hobbies and interests. Now, right away, I know I’ve just opened up a ‘can of worms’. “What are you saying? We can’t have hobbies and interests? We can’t relax? We can’t have fun?”. Just hold on a minute and hear me out. First off, we have to acknowledge the ‘sacred’ status fun has garnished in this generation. Almost like it’s a right, and, I suppose if you are an American, the constitution declares the ‘right’ of the pursuit of happiness. But our culture has turned fun into something we must have.

You don’t have to go very far to find an opinion about God these days. It seems like everyone has one. If you’re like me, you grew up in a religious family who had some strong opinions about God. Unfortunately, our opinions were based on hearsay, the odd Bible verse used out of context and some cultural attitudes that were common in my generation. Well cultural attitudes have shifted quite a bit since I was young. I’m old enough to realize now that my opinions on things aren’t the popular take on things.

As the church receives revelation and understanding concerning the five fold ministry (Ephesians 4:11-13), sometimes referred to as the ascension gifts or Jesus’ gifts to His church. Much emphasis has been given to the apostle and prophets. As we explore the scriptures we note that Jesus is the one who builds His church (Matthew 16:18). His church is built on progressive revelation (Romans 8:14).

This sunday gone was an awesome time in the presence of the Lord we had God time in His presence and the results continue to come in from sunday service. We had first been led into this incredible time of worship by our worship team who had been praying during the week for a special visitation from the Lord and it happened just as they had prayed. The worship all I can say to our readers is that it was nothing short of heavenly as people poured out their all to the Lord. Then right in middle of the service and during that time of worship the Lord had spoken to my heart to turn my attention to the book of Genesis 22:1-19 It was here I found a passage I had read and preached many times before but had never seen this portion of the Bible in the light that was now shining on it. The Bible says that God tested Abraham but later as you will see Abraham called his journey a time of worship

As we approach the season fondly known to christians all over the world as Christmas season the world over and especially in the western world we feel the push and the pull of the commercial agents. December is upon us and just a short walk around almost any Mall in North America as well as the western world you find yourself face to face with the giant of money makers. Christians are and should be cautioned during this season not to become inebriated and intoxicated by this wave of commercialism and be reminded that this is our season of remembering the birth of Jesus the Christ.
